Elie OkirieI joined MANSAG in 2000 as a trainee doctor and served as Assistant Secretary of the West Midlands Chapter between 2005 and 2009. MANSAG has a strong knowledge network of highly competent, skilled and experienced Nigerian doctors from varied specialties of medicine. I am proud to be associated with MANSAG and am keen that MANSAG remain active in capacity building within Nigeria and other African nations, transferring knowledge and skill. Consequently I am active in the association’s voluntary medical mission work and in the engagement, development and mentoring of UK based Nigerian trainees. I obtained my first medical degree in 1988 and have been working within the NHS since 1993

My current NHS practice is as a Consultant Physician in Neurological Rehabilitation, University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, Clifford Bridge Road, Coventry CV2 2DX. I am BUPA and AXA PPP certified for private services at the Nuffield Health Warwick and BMI Meriden Coventry. I am Chair of Specialist Training Committee in Rehabilitation Medicine West Midlands Strategic Health Authority /Deanery

Relevant Memberships: Royal College of Physicians of London, British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine and Board of Postgraduate School of Medicine West Midlands Deanery.

Specialist interests: Traumatic and vascular brain injuries including stroke and stroke prevention, spinal cord injuries and neuro-degenerative disorders; management of spasticity that require use of Botulinum toxin, intra-thecal Baclofen, or intra-thecal Phenol. I also do medico-legal work.
